How to Become a Christmas Party Events Planner
Jul 5th, 2010 | By | Category: ResumeAlthough highly competitive, Events planning is a satisfying job with a good salary to go along with it. Events planners organise events on a larger to a much smaller scale, from corporate Christmas parties and corporate events to smaller much parties. With events planning, there is often no one thing you do!
To enter this profession, you will need to attain a qualification in either of the following: events management, hospitality management, communication, public relations or a business based qualification. Specialist courses like events management will lead you directly into a career path as an event planner; however, the more generalist subjects (i.e. communications) will open more career options.
You do need to be naturally creative and organised too. These are vital attributes to this post, so if you are naturally not one or the other, you will need to improve your skills in these areas. Start off simply by creating an imaginary party or throw a real one and go through the whole process, from creation to how you would implement it. This will give you a little more understanding of the process and your level of skills.
Get involved voluntarily in events planning, whether it be for a business or a local community. It’s a good way to get experience and a real feel for the job. Moreover, attend events too to see the outcome of a professionally organised Christmas party, exhibition or other event and try to shadow an events planner to see how other events planners work.
After, you have enough experience; start looking for corporate event planning posts. Usually the best way is to get in contact with companies, rather than just looking in the jobs section. Or you could act as a freelancer, or start up your own business. If the latter sounds like your dream, book time with a business advisor at the Chamber of Commerce and attend as many business seminars as possible. You will need a business plan, which states your objectives, goals and audience.
Events planning for corporations is a challenging job that does require that you sometimes may have to work later hours. It is, however, a fulfilling job that highly skilled. The corporate Christmas parties events planners create are impressive and range from flamboyant themes to the more traditional theme.
