Successful Job Interviews

A major hurdle to overcome when applying for a new job is the interview stage.

The interview stage is only reached by those candidates who applied with a strong CV and cover letter. The employer will have received your information after you made your application online or via a recruitment agency.

The first impression employers always look at is your resume.Always make sure that your CV is accurate and engaging, as many employers only look at each one for around thirty seconds before moving on to the next.

The interview is where the employer can see the person behind the CV and get a feel for their personality and achievements. You will need to discuss your previous career achievements and any skills you have learned whilst working for other organisations. Describe in detail how you reacted in a positive way to the challenges you faced in your previous jobs and what you have gained from these experiences.

An interviwer may ask about your family, to understand any external commitments you may have outside of working hours.

A common question is “why do you want to work here?” Be ready to answer this and state your ambitions for the future with the company. If you are being interviewed for vacant John Lewis Job Vacancies, tell them why you like John Lewis as a company.

Interviewers like to ask questions about your future goals as they can see how motivated you are.

Most interviewers ask for your salary expectations so they can see if you fit in with their budget. If what is being asked is too high, the employer will usually ask if the salary is open to negotiation.

When the interviewer has finished with their questions try asking some of your own.

This is the best time to know a little bit more the company one might be working in and to get a feel of the potential company.

You may be invited back for a second interview before being told if you have been hired.
